Unless you specifically have Steam set to always require manual updates, the minor updates don't usally need to be started manually. People have provided lists of all the updates that have been pushed which you seem to be choosing to ignore. Obviously you weren't aware of all the updates. On the second point, I think that last bit there is key: OF WHICH YOU ARE AWARE. Simple truth is that a game needing REGULAR and LARGE patches is a BAD sign. Watching the town come to life and thrive for the first time in its history is satisfying because your work is making it happen. And those that are pushing LARGE updates regularly are doing so because they put a buggy mess on EA way too soon. The characters in Sandrock are amusing and varied, and the social system feels well-paced and rewarding. Some games, maybe, but definitely not most.
